Conditions We Treat

Back Pain

At your first visit, Dr. Bradley Eyford begins by performing a physical exam to determine the source of your pain. If the diagnosis indicates that the pain is caused by a spinal joint that is not functioning properly, he usually performs a rapid, controlled manipulation to restore proper movement, reduce pressure on adjacent nerves, and relieve muscle strain.

Some patients respond better to soft-tissue work, targeted stretches, or strengthening exercises, or to some combination of the above. Treatment plans at Tacoma Chiropractic Health Connection are adjusted over time based on individual response and clinical findings.

Neck Pain

In many cases, the cause of neck pain traces back to restricted motion in the cervical spine, and when that’s the finding, Dr. Eyford will perform a controlled manipulation to restore movement, take pressure off the nerves in that area, and loosen the tight muscles across the neck and shoulders.

Not every patient needs manipulation, though. Soft tissue work, gentle stretching, and posture correction exercises can work just as well for some cases, and Dr. Eyford often combines a few of these depending on what he finds.

Sciatica

When the sciatic nerve gets pinched or irritated, the pain can travel from the lower back down one leg, sometimes with numbness or a burning feeling along the way. It is not just a back problem. The disc, the pelvis, and the muscles around them are usually involved too.

Dr. Eyford examines each of these areas to pinpoint where the nerve is being compressed. From there, adjustments take pressure off the spine, and specific stretches help the nerve move the way it should again. Most patients see improvement within the first few weeks. Sitting for long stretches tends to make symptoms worse, so that gets addressed as part of the plan too.

Herniated Disc

A herniated disc is what happens when the soft cushion between two vertebrae bulges or ruptures. Sometimes that bulge presses on a nearby nerve, and that’s usually where the sharp pain, tingling, or weakness comes from.

Before any treatment starts, Dr. Eyford performs a physical exam to find exactly which disc is involved. He may also use X-rays if further investigation is required. Once the issue is identified,  he may use gentle, low-force adjustments and spinal decompression to take pressure off the area without aggravating it further. Recovery is gradual for most patients, building over several weeks rather than happening overnight. He will also point out which movements to avoid while the disc heals.

Headaches and Migraines

Tension in the neck and the jaw region is a common cause of headaches and migraines. Dr. Bradley Eyford assesses neck alignment and muscle tension first, since this is often the underlying cause.

Adjustments to the upper cervical spine, paired with soft tissue work, relieve the pressure contributing to the headaches. Some patients report fewer episodes after just a few visits. Screen time, sleep position, and stress are also part of the evaluation, since these factors frequently play a role in symptoms.

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a sideways curve in the spine. Chiropractic care won’t reverse a severe curve, but it can ease the pain and stiffness that come with it. Dr. Eyford starts with a postural exam and imaging to see the shape and degree of the curve. From there, he uses targeted adjustments and specific exercises to improve balance and take strain off the affected side.

Kids and teenagers need closer attention here, since curves can progress during growth spurts. Dr. Eyford tracks these changes over time and adjusts the plan as the spine keeps developing. If the bending of the spine is discovered early on, it can be prevented from advancing to a severe state through chiropractic care.

Work Injuries

Work injuries come from all kinds of causes: a lifting strain, a repetitive motion, a fall. Regardless of the cause, care needs to aim at restoring full function, not just easing discomfort for a few days.

Dr. Eyford conducts an extensive assessment of the injury and then formulates a treatment plan according to the nature of your job. Adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and strengthening exercises work together to support healing and lower the chances of the injury turning chronic. He also coordinates with workers’ compensation claims and handles the related documentation. The goal is a safe return to work, without rushing the process in a way that causes reinjury.

Vertigo

The spinning, off-balance feeling that comes with vertigo often starts in the inner ear. But misalignment in the upper neck can trigger it or make it worse. Dr. Eyford examines both areas carefully. Specific neck adjustments, combined with the Epley maneuver when appropriate. A lot of patients notice improvement after just one or two visits. When vertigo shows up alongside headaches or neck stiffness, that combination is usually a strong sign that the neck is playing a role.

Chiropractic treatment for vertigo is gentle and may also include posture correction and balance techniques based on your findings.

Whiplash / Auto Accident Injuries

Accidents have a way of affecting the spine in ways even at slow speeds. It should also be known that there are many people who have had whiplash injuries but do not display any symptoms until a few days after their accident. Dr. Eyford does a detailed physical examination to find out the exact source of your pain.

Adjustments and targeted rehabilitation exercises are then used to restore normal neck motion and reduce inflammation. Starting treatment early tends to shorten recovery time by a significant margin. Auto accident and whiplash treatment focuses on addressing the areas affected by the injury so the body can recover with less strain and better stability over time.

Knee Pain

Pain in the knees is not always an issue with the knees themselves. Poor alignment in either the hips or the ankles can cause changes in the mechanics of load-bearing in the leg, causing additional stress to be placed on the knee joint. Dr. Eyford doesn’t treat the knee in isolation; he will also examine your hips, pelvis, and spine since the actual source is often somewhere else.

Adjustments to the hip, ankle, or spine, combined with targeted strengthening exercises, take pressure off the joint and improve movement. Many patients feel steadier and notice less pain within a few weeks. Dr. Eyford also looks at gait and footwear, both of which can contribute to knee strain over time.

Arm & Leg Pain

Pain in an arm or leg doesn’t usually start there. More often, the real problem sits in the spine, where a nerve is being pinched or irritated. Treating the limb alone won’t fix much if that nerve root is still compressed.

Dr. Eyford starts with a detailed exam. Imaging gets added when needed, mainly to trace the pain back to where it actually begins rather than where it’s felt. Once he finds the source, adjustments take pressure off the affected nerve, and specific exercises go to work rebuilding strength and mobility in the limb. Pain usually settles down as nerve function returns, though the pace varies from patient to patient. Dr. Eyford stays on top of progress throughout treatment, since the goal is resolving the actual cause, not just masking it for a while.

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain can come from a rotator cuff strain, a pinched nerve in the neck, or joint restrictions that limit arm movement. Dr. Bradley Eyford tests the range of motion and strength to determine the underlying cause before treatment begins.

Adjustments to the shoulder joint and upper spine, combined with specific mobility exercises, restore normal movement and reduce inflammation. Most patients experience a noticeable improvement in range of motion within a few weeks. Dr. Eyford also provides exercises to maintain shoulder stability, since this joint tends toward recurring issues without ongoing maintenance.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand are often attributed to the wrist. That is sometimes accurate, but the pressure on the median nerve can also originate higher up, near the neck or shoulder. Dr. Bradley Eyford examines the entire nerve pathway before determining where the problem actually begins.

When the neck or upper back turns out to be the source, Dr. Eyford treats that area directly, making adjustments there, combined with wrist mobilization, to relieve pressure at the point where the nerve is actually being compressed. He also provides ergonomic guidance for desk setups and repetitive tasks, since these habits frequently contribute to the condition. Reduced tingling within the first several sessions is common, though nerve compression that has persisted for a long time takes longer to resolve. Catching the problem early tends to make the biggest difference in how well your body responds.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis involves the gradual breakdown of cartilage that cushions the joints, leading to stiffness, swelling, and pain that tends to worsen with activity. Chiropractic care cannot restore lost cartilage, but it can improve joint mobility and reduce strain on areas that have been compensating for the damage.

Chiropractic treatment for osteoarthritis may involve carefully planned adjustments that suit the arthritic joints and exercises that help build up muscle tissue that supports the joint without putting additional pressure on it. Most patients find that their stiffness decreases, especially in the morning, and that they have an improvement in their general mobility.

Prenatal and Pregnancy Care

Many physiologic changes occur in the maternal body during pregnancy to provide the growing fetus with a suitable and favorable environment to grow. Dr. Eyford uses techniques adapted specifically for pregnancy to address pelvic misalignment and support proper positioning of the baby.

Chiropractic adjustments are gentle and considered safe throughout all three trimesters. Many patients report an easier labor and reduced lower back pain following consistent care. Dr. Eyford also coordinates with the patient’s OB or midwife, so chiropractic care fits within the broader prenatal plan rather than working apart from it.

Pediatric Chiropractic Care

A child’s spine changes continuously, shaped by the effects of birth and by the everyday bumps and falls that come with growing up. Gentle chiropractic care can support this development. Adjustments for children use significantly less force than those used for adults and are tailored to a smaller, still-developing body.

Many parents seek care for concerns such as colic, ear infections, sleep difficulties, or poor posture caused by heavy backpacks. Dr. Eyford explains each step clearly to both the child and the parent, since comfort matters as much as results here. Regular checkups also help catch small imbalances before they have a chance to progress.
